IKE Update

Hurricane Ike did cause major destruction along the coastal and low lying regions of south east Texas. Thankfully, my family fared well. After hurricane Rita, they were prepared for the worst. This time everyone had generators. This time they had plenty of fuel. This time they had plenty of food. Since they have their own septic tanks and well water, they were unaffected by the city treatment plant problems. Their electricity did go out and they were told it could take weeks to come back on. Miraculously, power was restored four days later! It would seem that the preparation of everyone involved had improved after hurricane Rita. I am so grateful they are all well. Most of them have returned to work. There is a lot of clean up to do in their community and the neighboring communities. The local LDS stake leadership has organized work groups for service in the hardest hit areas. My family will be taking part in these service groups. The power is not back on for everyone yet and there is still some of my family "camping" out. In time all will be restored. This has been a wonderful exercise in preparedness. I am grateful to their example of heeding the prophets and preparing every needful thing. Hope everyone else that has been effected by this massive storm is able to recover.
